What is the CAP credential?

The Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) is IAAP’s flagship credential for administrative professionals — validating competency across six domains of practice through a proctored, computer-based examination of around 200 multiple-choice items over three hours.
Earning your CAP demonstrates your aptitude as an administrative and office support professional. It reflects achievement and commitment to excellence through lifelong learning — an investment in your career that shows employers, coworkers, customers and clients your commitment to the profession.
The exam is administered throughout North America and select international locations four times a year, and is based on the professionally developed, industry-vetted CAP Body of Knowledge (5th Edition, effective Fall 2023) — built by practicing professionals and business educators through a job analysis conducted approximately every five years. See IAAP’s certification page for eligibility and exam detail.
